Course Description
This class traces the history of the United States of America since the 1770s.It probes political, diplomatic,economic,social,and cultural developments of the last two and half century.After exploring the colonial history of the region,we will move on to the Revolutionary Era before focusing on the build up to the American Civil War.The course will center on American life after 1865 when the nation was transformed from primarily agricultural to industrial to technological. In its investigation of the industrial and post-industrial eras,the course gives special attention to the assertion of American economic and military power abroad and the roles of immigrants, minority races,and women in the social transformations of the times.
