Course Description
This course provides an introduction to Canadian Aboriginal art and art history, focusing on the geographical regions and cultural areas of the Northeast, Sub-arctic, northern Plains, Northwest Coast, and the Arctic. The art forms of each region will be examined in terms of cultural meaning, aesthetic form, and historical context, as well as museum collection and arts patronage by non-Aboriginal peoples, and the significance of artistic expression for cultural survival and present-day identity.
